Watercolour Paper
I wrote a blog post titled "What’s the best watercolour paper to use?" where I delve into the world of watercolour paper and highlight the best options for artists to use. In the article, I provide a comprehensive overview of different types of watercolour paper, discussing their weight, texture, and absorbency.
I explore traditional options such as hot-pressed, cold-pressed, and rough paper, explaining their unique characteristics and suggesting the ideal scenarios for each.
Additionally, I reveal some of the top brands renowned for their exceptional watercolour paper, offering insights into their quality and performance. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned artist, my blog will serve as a valuable resource to help you choose the perfect watercolour paper for your artistic endeavours.
Louise De Masi Fabriano Artistico Fat Pad
I’m excited to introduce the Louise De Masi Fabriano Artistico Spiral Fat Pad.
This A4 pad features 20 sheets of 100% cotton, 300gsm Fabriano Artistico watercolour paper – a personal favourite of mine (see below). It’s internally and externally sized, giving it great absorbency and durability for a range of techniques like watercolour, gouache, acrylic, ink, and even charcoal.
The paper is chlorine and acid-free, ensuring that your artwork stands the test of time. Whether you’re experimenting with wet techniques or detailed dry media, this pad offers the versatility and quality that professional artists rely on.
It’s perfect for all kinds of projects, and I’m thrilled to have collaborated with Jackson’s to make this bespoke product available!
Arches
I use a few different watercolour papers but Arches is my favourite.
Arches watercolour paper is my go-to choice for its superior quality and performance.
Arches Aquarelle is a premium, 100% cotton watercolour paper renowned for its exceptional quality. Made using a traditional cylinder mould, this paper is available in a variety of textures: hot press (smooth), cold press (medium texture), and rough. The paper is gelatin-sized both internally and externally, giving it excellent water resistance and ensuring vibrant colours.
Available in 300gsm, 640gsm, and even heavier weights, it’s ideal for a wide range of techniques and ensures durability, whether you’re glazing, lifting, or creating wet-on-wet effects.
Fabriano Artistico
Fabriano Artistico is another paper I like to use: cold press 300gsm.
Fabriano Artistico is a premium, 100% cotton paper mouldmade in Italy. It’s available in both Traditional White and Extra White, with no bleaches or optical brighteners. The paper is acid-free, vegan-friendly, and offers 4 different textures: hot press (smooth), soft press, cold press (fine grain), and rough.
Its strong surface and internal/external sizing make it ideal for watercolours, as well as other media like ink, acrylics, and charcoal. You can choose from 300gsm or 640gsm options depending on your needs.
